MEASURES FOR REDUCING THE RISK OF

STAPHYLOCOCCAL SKIN INFECTIONS

AMONG SPORTS PARTICIPANTS

USE GOOD HYGIENE - this includes hand washing, with soap, after all restroom usage and showering with hot water and anti-bacterial soap after all practices and competitions (the District has provided antiseptic soap dispensers in the restrooms and shower facilities)

DO NOT SHARE towels, personal items, clothing, or equipment with other people

WASH ALL practice equipment a minimum of three times per week with hot water and detergent (daily washing is preferred)

REPORT ALL skin lesions or wounds to coaches and trainers

COVER ALL wounds with clean gauze - if a wound cannot be covered adequately, a player should not practice or compete until the lesion(s) are healed or can be covered adequately

The Butler Area School District has established a daily cleaning and disinfecting procedure in the Athletic Locker Rooms (including visitors’ locker rooms), Training Rooms, Weight Training Rooms using antiseptic solutions designed to reduce the risk of staph infections.

Antiseptic soaps and hand wipes are also provided in these facilities for use by athletes.
