Butler girls win 3rd straight TSTCA title

EDINBORO — Call it a three-peat.
Trailing North Allegheny by eight points
entering the final event of the day at the Tri-State Track Coaches Association
Indoor Championships Saturday at Edinboro University, Butler’s 4x400 meter
relay team hit the track.
The quartet of Gabrielle Boden, Maddie
Tonini, Chesna Tomko and Liz Simms won the event, giving Butler the needed 10
points to secure its third consecutive TSTCA indoor team title.
In the distance medley relay right before,
Erin LeMay, Anna Baxter, Emma LeMay and Maggie Welty placed second for a
critical eight team points. Simms finished second in the 800 and anchored three
relay teams while Welty placed fifth in the mile.
Butler’s boys shattered two team records as
the distance medley relay of Brett Brady, Jake Wolfrum, Tim Porter and Noah
Beveridge ran the event in 10 minutes, 33.94 seconds, bettering the previous
school mark by 23 seconds. The 4x400 meter unit of Cade Gratzmiller, Ryan
Marcella, Beveridge and Wolfrum ran a 3:31.82, eclipsing the previous school
mark by three seconds.
Jack Codispot won the pole vault event. He
qualified for the state meet, as did Beveridge and Brady in the mile, and
Butler’s 4x400 meter and distance medley relay teams.
Overall, the Golden Tornado boys placed
second out of 38 teams Saturday.

Pennington sets marks
Karns City senior Rebecca Pennington placed
fifth in the 3,000 meters at the TSTCA Championships with a school-record time
of 10:57.46.
She also finished 12th in the mile with a
school-record time of 5:36.16.
Rockets at YSU
Slippery Rock’s Rod Williams broke the
school’s indoor 60-meter sprint time by running the event in 7.42 seconds at
Saturday’s indoor meet at Youngstown State University.
The Rockets’ 4x200 meter relay unit of Ethan
Beckwith, Ryan Putorti, Pat Shea and Williams ran a school-record 1:39.17.
