Baggetta, Patterson set Butler records

Golden Tornado shine at indoor track meet; wrestlers 2nd at Sharon

Megan Baggetta Freshman broke Butler's indoor long jump record Saturday at Kent State

Butler's indoor track and field team broke two more school records Saturday at the Kent State University high school meet.

There were 132 schools competing.

Freshman Megan Baggetta won the triple jump with a school-record leap of 36 feet, 8.25 inches. Lexis Frost set the previous mark of 35-6.5 in 2011.

Tim Patterson broke the 3,200-meter record with a time of 9 minutes, 58.87 seconds. Chris Grooms was the previous record holder.

The Golden Tornado's girls 1,600-meter relay team of Taylor Timmons, Chelsey Kabel, Emma Lehman and Gabby Boden won the race with a state qualifying time of 4:08.85.

Slippery Rock competed in the meet as well. Seaton Wozniak placed second in the shot put with a throw of 46 feet, 9 inches, resetting his school's indoor record.

Wrestling

Butler placed second in the 16-team Sharon Duals over the weekend.

The Golden Tornado defeated Corry 34-28, Erie 70-8 and Indiana 39-36 in pool matches before besting Elizabeth Forward 46-28 in the semifinals.

Norwin defeated Butler 40-36 in the championship match. The Tornado are 15-5 in dual matches this season.

Caleb Hartung went 5-0 with two pins for Butler. Levi Donnel, Colton Spohn, Steven Green, Nate McDonald, Hunter Neff and Cooper Baxter all went 4-1. Spohn and Green had four pins each.

Girls Basketball

Anna Kadlubek scored 14 points, but Slippery Rock dropped a 77-38 decision to Blackhawk Saturday.

The host Cougars scored 48 points in the first half. Bronwyn McCoy scored eight points and Ella McDermott six for the Rockets.

Slippery Rock cruised to a 68-26 victory at Franklin on Friday. Hallie Raabe paced the Rockets with 15 points while McDermott had 14 and Kadlubek 10.

Mercer 55, Union 43 — Dominika Logue scored 17 points and had 11 rebounds for the Golden Damsels. Keira Croyle added 10 points.

Truman Vereb led three Union players in double figures, scoring 12 points, but the Golden Knights dropped a 55-42 decision to Mercer.

Swimming

Maggie Massella, Gracie Olshanski, Natalie Double and Alyssa Olshanski of Slippery Rock won the girls 200 medley relay over the weekend at the Poland Invitational.

The same quartet placed second in the 200 free relay.

The Rockets' Conner Wallace and Gracie Olshanski swam their season's best times in the 50 free. Sarah McCandless swam a district qualifying time in the 500 free.
