On Saturday January
16, 2010 the Butler Junior High Wrestling team competed in the 4th
annual Butler Duals. The “GT” went 4-0
on the day to win the tournament for the 3rd time in 4 years. This
pushes their dual match record to 11 wins with 1 loss.
Butler started
out the day with a 57-24 victory over Shaler.
Winners for Butler by
pinfall were Jared Hinkle, Ryan Hortsman, Cody Houston, Ryan Hannon, and Zack
Weaver. Winning by major decision were Mason
Kauffman and Patrick Lokhaiser. Winning
by decision were Korey Caudill, Kirk Gibson, Zack Shultz, Jake Olenick, and
Will Bortmas. Most outstanding wrestler
for match was Jared Hinkle. Hinkle was
up 7-0 and pushed his opponent for the fall in the 3rd period. He also did a great job of listening to the
direction of the coaching staff. Great
job Jared!
Next the Tornado defeated Fort
Lebouf 81-15. Winning by fall were Korey Caudill, Mason
Boy, Jake Olenick, Patrick Lokhaiser, and Ryan Hannon. Zack Shultz picked up a major decision. Receiving forfeits were Connor Foust, Jared
Hinkle, Ryan Hortsman, Will Bortmas, Kirk Gibson, Xavier Bennett, Zack Weaver,
and Bryant Butler. Most outstanding
wrestler was Mason Boy. After a
scoreless first period Mason came out in the 2nd period to pin his
opponent. Great job Mason!
Up next was the match of the day between Butler
and NA Black. The match was very
exciting and went back and forth. After
11 matches the GT found themselves down 31-18.
They responded in a big way to win the final 7 matches. The “GT” fought through two injuries and
defeated the Tigers 52-31. Winning by
fall were Cody Houston, Zack Weaver, and Matt Kenyon. Winning by decision were Korey Caudill,
Xavier Bennett, Will Bortmas, Ryan Hannon, and Bryant Butler. Picking up forfeits were Connor Foust and
Jared Hinkle. Mason Boy picked up an
injury default victory after being headbutted by his opponent and being forced
to default by the trainer. Xavier
Bennett was the most outstanding wrestler for the match for his thrilling 3-1
overtime victory. Great job X-man!
The Tornado finished off the day with a 78-24 victory over Hopewell. Winning by fall were Korey Caudill, Xavier
Bennett, Mike Fritz, and Zack Shultz.
Cody Houston won by technical fall 16-0. Winning by decision were Connor Foust and
Kirk Gibson. Picking up forfeits were
Jake Olenick, Will Bortmas, Ryan Hannon, Zack Weaver, Bryant Butler, and Matt
Kenyon.
The Junior High “GT” return to
action on Wednesday at home against Seneca
Valley.
