Senior forward Nate Hartung scored a career-high 19 points and 11 Butler players found the scoreboard as the
Golden Tornado (1-1) ran away and hid early. An 8-0 run - capped by 3-pointers from Nick Martini and Jerrod Markle - snapped a 4-4 tie in the first period. Adam Monday came off the bench and sank treys on consecutive possessions in the second quarter, the latter shot hiking the Tornado lead to 30-18.

Blake Anderson sank six free throws in the final 39 seconds of the game to give the Golden Tornado a 48-44 victory. The junior guard sank all six of his free throw attempts in the final 39 seconds, enabling the Butler boys to secure a come-from-behind 48-44 win over Altoona. He sank two free throws each at the 39, 29 and five-second marks, making it a two-possession game each time.
The Tornado managed just two field goals and five points in the first quarter. They trailed 27-17 at halftime as Altoona (2-1) sank 10 of 18 shots from the field, including five 3-pointers. The Tornado sank 14 of 16 free throws on the night, 10 of 11 in the fourth quarter. Butler had just three turnovers in the second half.
"For Blake Anderson to do what he did down the stretch in his first varsity game is incredible," Lewandowski said.

Butler boys' basketball coach Joe Lewandowski came up with a recipe to defeat WPIAL Class AAAA No. 2 Shaler.

The Tornado had a 31-25 edge in rebounding. Butler had 15 turnovers to Shaler's 12.

"This was a physical game and the officials allowed it to be physical," Shaler Coach Ruppert said. "When you have a guy who can knock people to the floor, that definitely favors Butler."

Golden Tornado Basketball squad stuns WPIAL Champion Aliquippa

The Golden Tornado did exactly that in shocking the defending WPIAL Class AA champions, 64-49, in Butler's Christmas tournament title game.
Noah Hartung contributed 14 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Tornado. Nate Hartung had 11 points and five boards. Both made the all-tournament team.
