2018
PIAA Championships
Butler Golden Tornado has nine wrestlers in action.
Christian Sequete (26-3) is the Golden Tornado's lone No. 1 seed at 182 pounds. Jack Codispot is a No. 2 seed at 145 with a 28-4 record. Freshman Steven Green, 27-9 at 132, is a No. 3 seed. “Two of Christian's three losses are to the defending state champion from Albert Gallatin,” Butler coach Scott Stoner said. “He may run into Hampton's (Justin) Hart, a freshman who is 32-1, but if Christian wrestles his match, I'm confident he can win. “I'm hopeful we can get our three freshmen through and Rob Hays (17-11 at 160), who has only been wrestling for two years.” Butler freshman Clayton Dressler is 17-12 at 106 and fellow frosh Nate McMaster is 20-11 at 120. Both are seeded fourth. “We're hoping to get at least six guys through, but you never know,” Stoner said. “I've been disappointed in this tournament before and I've been surprised before.”

Powerade Wrestling Tournament

Butler 48 Mars 21

2015
The Butler Junior High Wrestling team opened their season at the Norwin Duals.
They started out their season by facing the defending district 7 champion team in Kiski Area. The "GT" wrestled well in the light weights but Kiski proved to be too much in defeating Butler 64-19. Next up was another tough team in McGuffey. Butler wrestled some good matches but when the dust settled McGuffey was victorious by a 72-30 ledger. Next up was Fox Chapel and the Tornado used a mix of pin and forfeits to defeat the Foxes 72-28. Next was Greensberg Central Catholic who only had 4 wrestlers make the trip. (although a couple of them were studs). Butler won the match 78-15 due mainly to forfeits. The last match of the day was against Elizabeth Forward. Again the Golden Tornado received some forfeits as well as earning 3 pins and a major decision in route to an 81-18 victory. Outstanding individuals on the day for Butler were:
Nate McDonald 130 lbs: 5-0 3 pins and a major decision
Steven Green 122 lbs: 4-1 2 pins

Clayton Dressler 100 lbs: 4-1 1 pin
Colin Hoffman 110 lbs: 4-1 1 pin
Colton Spohn 115 lbs: 3-2 1 pin
Cam Wisenstein 95 lbs: 3-2

Evan McDonald 90 lbs: 3-2
Deven Demerlee 80 lbs: 3-2
Nathan McMaster 105 lbs: 3-2
Darin Skidmore 145 lbs: 3-2
Paris Johnson 155 lbs: 3-2
Kate Quinlan 165 lbs: 3-2
Ian Thompson 250 lbs: 3-2 1 pin.
- The Varisty Team competed in the 2 day Chartiers Houston Tournament this weekend as well. With 2 starters out and 1 injured in his 2nd match the Golden Tornado were still able to finish 3rd out of 28 teams. Place winners are as follows:
1st place: Caleb Baxter 152 lbs

3rd place: Christian Sequete 170 lbs & Justin Johnson 195 lbs

6th place: Braydon Hoffman 106 lbs & Hank Finan 160 lbs

This past Wednesday night the Butler Junior High "GT" Wrestling team hosted Mars. A much improved team over the past couple years Mars built an early lead and was up 36-21 after 138lbs. The "GT" would use a decision at 145 lbs then forfeits at the final 5 weight classes to win by a final score of 54-36.

There were 4 matches decided by 2 points or less.

Cam Wisenstein was trailing 5-0 but used a 5 point roll to tie the match in the 2nd period. After a scoreless 3rd period he secured a takedown in overtime to win 7-5.

Darin Skidmore took a 2-1 lead after the first period but found himself down 4-2 after the 2nd period. He picked up a penalty point and reversal in the 3rd period to win 5-4. One of the hardest workers on our team I believe Skidmore's work ethic paid off as he had more left in the tank then his opponent in the 3rd period.

New comer Nathan McMaster was in a back and forth match at 105 lbs before hitting a reversal and pinning his opponent in the second period.

Winners for Butler were:
By fall:

105 lbs: Nathan McMaster
By Decision:
90 lbs: Cam Wisenstein 7-5 OT
145 lbs: Darin Skidmore 5-4
By forfeit:
95 lbs: Even McDonald
100 lbs: Clayton Dressler
155 lbs: Paris Johnson
165 lbs: Kate Quinlan

250 lbs: Ian Thompson

2014

The Butler Golden Tornado Junior High Wrestling Team begin 2014
with 3 wins and 2 losses at the Norwin Duals. Team Scores were as follows
Butler 72 Elizabeth Forward 11
Butler 51 Connelsville White 33
Butler 67 NA Gold 18
Norwin 58 Butler 33
McGuffey 57 Butler 42

Wrestling without guys at 5 weight classes the Junior High "GT" used undefeated days by 6 different wrestlers to come away with 3 wins and 2 hard fought losses. If you take away the forfeited matches
the Tornado beat Norwin head to head and lost to McGuffey by 3.
The two most outstanding wrestlers of the day for the "GT" were Jack Codispot and Sam Lambermont. Each pinned every kid they wrestled. Both went 5-0 with 4 pins and 1 forfeit win. Codispot used a lateral drop to throw and pin his Connelsville opponent while Lambermont used his patented bear hug to take down all of his opponents and pinned nearly all with the move.
Also going undefeated for the Golden Tornado were: Michael Crawford 5-0 with 3 pins all coming via cradle, Saavon Mosby 5-0 1 pin, Levi Spohn 5-0 1 pin 1 technical fall, and Justin Stewart who went 4-0 with 3 pins before being injured and unable to compete in the final match.
Also having good days for Butler were:
Jacob White 4-1 with 2 pins
Mac Covert 3-2 with 1 pin
Nate McDonald 3-2 with 2 pins
Logan Donnel 3-2
Brayden Hoffman 3-2 with 1 pin

Peters Twp. Match
The Butler Junior High Wrestling Team improved to 5-2 by defeating Mars and Peters Twp.
Against Mars the Junior High "GT" were trailing 21-39 going into the 165 lb match. Sam Lambermont got a pin, McGwire Covert received a forfeit at 185 lbs. This made the score 33-39. Mars did not weigh in a heavyweight so we knew we were getting 6 pts via forfeit at heavyweight. So the entire dual match came down to Jacob White at 210 lbs (he weighed in at 185 lbs and moved up to 210lbs). Wanting to end the excitement Jacob wasted no time as he pinned his opponent in just 8 seconds! After receiving the forfeit at 250 lbs by Saavon Mosby the final score was Butler 45 Mars 39.
Winning wrestlers at Mars were:
By fall:
Sam Lambermont & Jacob White
By major decision:
Colton Spohn 9-1
Derek Salmon 13-3
Michael Crawford 13-3
By decision:
Jack Codispot 7-4
By forfeit:
Braydon Hoffman
McGwire Covert
Saavon Mosby
In the Peters Twp match the "GT" found themselves in a 0-30 hole after the 115lb match. They won 6 of the next 8 matches to make the score 33-36. So once again the match came down the the final wrestlers. Just like Wednesday the Golden Tornado were able to eek out a victory in the final match to seal the dual meet. Saavon Mosby made quick work of his opponent winning by fall in 26 seconds. This made the final team score: Butler 42 Peters Twp 39.
Winning wrestlers were:
By fall:
Sam Lambermont
Saavon Mosby
By forfeit:
Derek Salmon
Michael Crawford
Cole Thompson
Mac Covert
Jacob White
There are still 4 wrestlers without a loss on the year:
Michael Crawford 122-130lbs 7-0 3 pins
Justin Stewart 130 lbs 4-0 3 pins (out with injury)
Sam Lambermont 165-185 7-0 6 pins (has pinned every opponent)
Saavon Mosby 250lbs (soon to be 210!) 7-0 2 pins
Also, Congratulations to the varsity team in getting wins over Mars and Peters TWP as well. Just like the J.High squad the varsity match came down to the wire with Seth "Big Papi" McCrea sealing the win with a pin at 285 lbs as the crowd chanted "Papi, Papi!"
